Washing instructions: just let you mohair garments air, the natural fibers have a self-cleansing quality. Wash as little as possible. If necessary, hand wash only.
This Mohair distinguishes itself by the high quality and quantity of mohair that has been used. Often as not, ‘mohair’ yarn contains more synthetic fiber than natural mohair. Not this one, this is the real deal. A tiny bit of nylon is added for durability and strength, the rest is pure soft natural luxury.
The Angora goats are categorized, based on the quality of their wool. This way, the rigid itchy hairs are avoided for this yarn.
Fair mohair from South Africa.
Mohair is a natural product, harvested from the carefully shorn wool of Angora goats. Already in the 16th century, people used mohair as a luxury fabric.
This yarn is produced in South Africa, by independent local entrepreneurs. Without aid or influence from NGO’s, they are able to produce a high quality product and supply dignified employment for the locals.
This mohair is an honest product of which they are justly proud.
Mohair has a relatively thin thread, with lots and lots of fluff attached to it. This fluffy effect will show best when it’s knit or crocheted on thick needles. This will result in airy, holey knitwear which is nicely supple, fluffy and oh so soft to the touch.
The special thing about mohair is that it will get more beautiful over time. By wearing it and moving the fabric about, the fluffiness is stimulated. The garment will become fluffier and suppler the more you use it. Even when it’s been crumpled up at the bottom of your closet for months, it will regain its beauty. Just shake it out a bit, air it, and your mohair marvel is as good as new.
